The history of the spread of Islamic religion in Nusantara is a major factor in the existence of the history of Jilbab in Indonesia. The entry of Islam in the 7th century through trade routes, where merchants and scholars spread Islam through religion in the region of Indonesia. The immigrants come from Arab, Indian, Persian and Chinese. Coastal areas such as Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra and some of Java’s islands such as West Java, Central Java, East Java, and also South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Maluku were the first areas of Islamic development in Indonesia.

The history of hijab continues in the Dutch colonial period, from the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th, at a time when the use of jilbab suffered a regression due to pressure and discrimination from the aspiring Muslim colonial rulers. Therefore, there are many Muslims who do not dare and do not want to use the hijab because they tend to be imprinted as radical and fanatical who can jeopardize colonial power at the time. Moreover, this decline is caused by the cultural influence of goods that have begun to enter Indonesia through various fields, namely through the mass media, education, and lifestyle. A lot of Muslim women are influenced by a more open and modern Western culture. However, there are still some Muslims who firmly adhere to their establishment to use the hijab as a form of identity as Muslims as well as form of combat against the invaders who dominated Indonesia at the time. One example is Rasuna Said who is a freedom fighter and a female activist from Minangkabau. He always wore a jilbab and a curtain as symbols of Islam and Indonesianism and was also active in various social and political organizations that opposed the Dutch colonization, such as the Islamic Sarekat, and some Islamic parties like the Party of Islamic Companions of Indonesia, and the National Party of Indonesia.

      But nowadays it’s not hard to see a Muslim woman who’s using a fist on our neighborhoods. A lot of students and students are changing their style of dressing with a fashionable and modern hijab. Even Muslims today are doing creations and innovations in living for everyday life and attending certain events. Religious but still fashionable and understanding fashion is what makes them wear a hijab. With the diversity of hijab models from patterns to accessories it becomes its own attraction that can attract the attention of the people around it so that with the use of Muslim hijab looks more elegant and elegant.
      With the passing of time and the rapid advancement of technology, a modern hijab was created. Fashion trends among Muslim women, especially the hijab, are developing rapidly. This change is a transformation of the change in perception and also understanding of the hijab as the identity of Muslim women. This development has its own debate related to Islamic ethics and law related to its use.
      The main factor that determines the development of design of a more modern hijab model has become a trend in the world of fashion that is the creation of various new forms in design, models as well as available hijab materials. Besides, the modern hijab also evolved in terms of colors, motifs and design cuts. Because of that, Muslim women can easily choose a variety of hijab choices that fit their personal style. This innovation starts with a color that can express joy (bright colors), a hijab with unique motifs as well as a Hijab with a modern design style but still minimalist and elegant. This modern hijab style concept transforms the use of hijab as a Muslim identity into a way for Muslim women to express their creativity in style and style.

      In Indonesia itself, a jilbab or a hijab is the ideal outfit for Muslim women. The statement prompted many Muslim fashion designers to prepare the latest hijab creations regularly, even Indonesia is considered one of the Muslim fashion trendsetter for the world. The World Economic Forum (WEF) released the latest data on total hijab spending of Indonesians during 2022. It is recorded that the total consumption of hijabs reaches 1.02 billion shields per year. According to the Datadoks, 86.93% of the Indonesian population is Muslim, and according to the central statistical agency, the total population of Indonesia, especially women aged 15 – 34 years, amounted to Rs 43,497.253,00 which means that the number of Muslims in Indonesia is predominant. The possibilities in running a hijab business are also wide open as well as the potential of hijab design is also varied.

      There are many hijab designs in Indonesia today. Starting with a triangular hijab with a variety of materials, and a hijab called a pashmina, the materials used are varied. The pashmina hijab has many designs or specific concepts to wear it, but for these pashminas usually, the Muslims who use it feel disturbed by the width of the hijab that usually does not cover the back. In the world of fashion the hijab offers a wide variety of models and styles that allow every Muslim woman to discover her personal style identity. There are several choices of curtains such as pashmina, quadratic, bergo, and shawl that may be famous and popular among many people. In addition to the choice of materials, ribbons, embroidery, ornamental designs, even pallets or sleeves, this extends the variety in the modern hijab appearance.
      Not only are inspirers, celebrities and public figures able to influence current fashion trends. In public events or social media, celebrities often show up in their hijab fashion, especially in the country that adheres to the largest Islamic religion in the world like our country Indonesia. Growth and development will be rapid because celebrities are easy to highlight to trigger viral things and new trends that will be followed by many Muslims and fans of the celebrity. It opens up diversity in the fashion industry but stillins a modern Muslim female identity. With inspiration from a variety of social media, public figures, influencers, so much to give impressions and new frames in the world of hijab fashion.
